Akeneo's PIM system offers merchants the ability to manage product data in one central location. To transfer this data to a web shop based on Magento or Adobe Commerce, both systems need to be connected. DELABYTE supports shop operators in this integration. Depending on the situation, we use either the Magento 2 connector provided by Akeneo or a self-developed interface.
Akeneo PIM is a software for managing product information (Product Information Management, PIM). The company Akeneo offers a free open source variant of their product, PIM Community Edition, for small and medium-sized businesses.
The use of Akeneo PIM aims to maintain all product information in one central location. By integrating with Magento, companies ensure that the current, sales-relevant data is synchronized with the online shop and that the data base remains consistent.
In some situations, it is technically not possible to perform a delta synchronization, i.e., to import only changed and new product data into Magento. Our Akeneo module is specifically designed to bring the entire product inventory into Magento as efficiently as possible. In our test case, the import of 20,000 products took about 20 minutes, while the standard connector on the same system took about 5 hours for the same amount of data.
For the connection of Akeneo PIM to Magento, Akeneo offers a pre-built interface – the 'Akeneo Connector for Magento 2'. This interface offers many configuration options and is continuously developed further. In most cases, using this connector is the best way to link the PIM system with the Magento shop.
However, in specific integration scenarios, the use of alternative integration modules can also be purposeful. For example, DELABYTE has developed a Magento module optimized for a fast and efficient import of all sales-relevant product data from the Akeneo PIM system. It is suitable for integration scenarios where a delta synchronization with the standard connector is technically not possible.
"Akeneo PIM and Magento are a widely used open-source combination. Besides performance, considering the retailer's individual processes around product updates is also important for good integration."
